BioFit Engineered Products
In technical environments like laboratories, cleanrooms, and healthcare facilities, seating isn’t just about comfort. It plays a critical role in supporting safety, precision, and performance. That’s why BioFit developed BioGrip, a textured vinyl upholstery that helps users stay securely seated, especially when wearing personal protective equipment (PPE). Launched in June 2025, BioGrip was designed to meet the real-world needs of professionals working in focused, high-demand environments.
The idea for BioGrip came directly from feedback we received from customers. Over time, we kept hearing about the same issue: traditional vinyl becomes slippery when worn with PPE, like cleanroom suits or lab coats. This compromises ergonomic posture and can lead to safety concerns during delicate tasks. BioGrip solves this by offering a high-traction surface that improves user stability, helping reduce unwanted movement during work that requires focus and precision.Whether you're pipetting samples in a bioscience lab, performing diagnostics in a clinical setting, or documenting results in a hospital, BioGrip helps keep you firmly positioned. It’s a small detail that makes a big impact on both performance and peace of mind.
But BioGrip isn’t just about grip. It’s also made from non-phthalate, static-dissipative vinyl and was engineered to meet the strict standards of modern cleanroom and static-control environments. It’s resistant to chemicals and abrasions, compatible with SEFA-approved cleaning protocols, and passes double-rub durability tests, making it ideal for long-term use in high-intensity spaces. One of the most exciting things about BioGrip is how easily it can be integrated. It’s available on all nine of our upholstered seating lines, and it can even be added to many existing BioFit chairs through retrofitting. That means facilities can upgrade their seating without having to start from scratch, saving time and cost while improving performance.
This innovation builds on the legacy of Microcon, BioFit’s original cleanroom and ESD-compliant upholstery introduced over 30 years ago. Microcon became the standard for many of our technical seating products, and BioGrip takes those same principles, static control, cleanability, chemical resistance, and adds a much-needed tactile upgrade.
The development process behind BioGrip was extensive and intentional. Our R&D team worked for over 18 months, gathering field input, testing prototypes in real settings, and refining the material. The final result is a product designed not in a vacuum, but in close collaboration with the people who use our chairs every day. As BioFit President Jim Connell put it, “BioGrip is the essence of what BioFit does best: listening to our customers and creating breakthrough solutions that lead the industry.”
BioGrip is a great fit for a wide range of environments, including laboratories, cleanrooms (up to ISO 3), hospitals and clinics, electronics manufacturing, pharmaceutical processing, and academic research settings. Anywhere that user focus, postural integrity, and cleanliness are essential, BioGrip brings added value.
Initially available in black and blue, BioGrip offers a sleek and professional look that pairs well with BioFit’s existing upholstery palette. Like all BioFit chairs, models with BioGrip can be fully configured, from backrest styles and seat sizes to control mechanisms and armrests, to meet the specific needs of your workspace.
At BioFit, our mission has always been to design seating that works with the people using it, not against them. BioGrip is a clear extension of that mission. It’s a thoughtful, tested, and practical solution to a real problem, and it helps us continue raising the bar for what ergonomic seating can do in specialized environments.
