The Puritan LA-116 Liquid Amies Transport System w/1ml Fill & 1 Elongated Tip Flock Swab is a non-sterile applicator that has a mini-tip hydraflock tip with a plastic handle. This advanced kit is a specialized system for collecting and transporting bacteriological specimens. It's made up of a sterile peel-open pouch that contains a HydraFlocked swab with polypropylene screw cap. The polyester fibers of this material facilitate quick absorption and release of specimens. The self-centering cap is leakproof and ensures easy swab removal and disposal. The LA-116 swab has a molded breakpoint that is designed to accommodate different sampling sites fast, safe, and convenient. This transport medium is a non-nutritive phosphate-buffered medium that is capable of maintaining the viability of aerobic, anaerobic, and fastidious bacteria such as Neisseria gonorrhoeae during transport to the laboratory. It also contains thioglycolate salt to provide a reduced environment and chloride salts to help maintain osmotic balance and control permeability of bacterial cells.
