ADDING TO THE 3D ARSENAL IN ADDITIVE MANUFACTURING

3D technology is a cornerstone of additive manufacturing, whether it’s 3D software creating files to guide the manufacturing process or 3D printers producing a product component. The DRV-Z1 now introduces a further element of 3D to additive manufacturing, that of a microscope with a 3D stereoscopic view.
The DRV-Z1 is a digital stereo 3D viewer with zoom that brings together the benefits of optical stereo microscopy and digital technology into a single unique system, without the need for special glasses or restrictive VR headsets.
The showcasing of this technology at the recent Additive International event led to some interesting conversations with visitors to the Vision Engineering stand.
A topic that came up more than once was the value of being able to use the DRV for quality control. The ability to comfortably view the product in 3D, was seen as extremely useful across a range of applications, including products as diverse as specialist lenses and 3D surface textures produced by Nano 3D printing. Being able to quickly and easily capture the high quality images seen on screen to a USB was thought to be highly beneficial for record keeping or sharing with others in the manufacturing process.
One of our visitors even brought along a sample to view, a nano-tube with a diameter of 40µ. This proved to be a perfect demonstration model, impressing everyone with a crystal clear image of this tiny tube.

Most popular questions asked:

  • Q. What is the highest magnification?
    A. The DRV-Z1 has an optical magnification of up to x93 magnification, increasing to x180
    magnification with the digital zoom.
  • Q. Can I share the image?
    A. The image can be captured and saved to a USB with a single click. Alternatively the
DRV-Z1 can be linked to other DRV units at the same site or across multiple locations
  • Q. Can the object be lit from below?
    A. The DRV-Z1 has the option of a sub-station light
